The Anvil PMA1020 is a 20 quart (approximately 19 litre) planetary mixer with three fixed speeds from 130 to 437 rpm and three attachments supplied — whisk, hook and paddle. As with its smaller stablemate, read the manufacturer's volume guide before you buy: it handles 10 kg of pound cake mix but 3 kg of bread dough (from 2 kg of flour and 1 litre of water), and dough is where planetary mixers are most often over-bought.
Why operators choose the ICE-PMA1020
- Bread dough limit is 3 kg — from 2 kg of flour and 1 litre of water, per the manufacturer's own worked example. That is a real batch, but it is not bakery production - for that, a spiral mixer is the right machine
- Full volume guide published — mashed potato 6 kg, waffle or pancake mix 8 L, pound cake mix 10 kg, bread or roll dough 3 kg. The limit differs enormously by product, which is why bowl capacity alone tells you little
- Three fixed speeds - 130, 259 and 437 rpm — fewer steps than the 10-quart model's five, and a lower top speed. Fixed speeds mean less to fail
- Three attachments supplied — whisk, hook and paddle in the box
- Direct drive gear driven transmission — gears rather than a belt, with a long-life gearbox and grease-packed ball bearings
- Heat-treated alloy steel gears and shafts — the wear parts are properly specified, which is what decides whether a mixer lasts
- Stainless steel safety guard — the guard is stainless rather than a plastic moulding - it gets cleaned like everything else
- 417 mm wide — a modest bench footprint for a 20-quart machine

Venue suitability
The PMA1020 suits cafes, patisseries, restaurants and institutional kitchens working in larger batches of batter, cream and light dough. For bread or pizza dough at production volume, a spiral mixer is the better machine — the 3 kg dough limit is the honest boundary here.

Installation & delivery
It runs from a standard 10 A power point, so no electrical work is required. At 0.37 kW it draws about 1.5 A. Dimensions are recorded width x height x depth: 417 mm wide, 802 mm tall, 486 mm deep. At 802 mm tall it needs clearance above to lift the bowl out and change attachments — measure against any shelf. Our data records no weight, which you will want before deciding whether it goes on a bench or a stand.
Frequently asked questions
Q: How much bread dough will it handle?
3 kg, from 2 kg of flour and 1 litre of water - the manufacturer's own worked example. That is a genuine batch for a cafe, but it is not production baking. If bread or pizza dough is your main use, a spiral mixer develops gluten with less friction heat and handles far more.
Q: How does it compare with the 10-quart PMA1010?
Capacity up, speeds down. The PMA1020 is 20 quarts with three fixed speeds (130/259/437 rpm) and handles 3 kg of dough. The PMA1010 is 10 quarts with five speeds (193-496 rpm) and handles 1.3 kg. So you get roughly double the dough capacity but coarser speed control and a lower top speed. Worth noting the recorded motor figures also differ in a way we cannot explain - see the next question.
Q: Which has the bigger motor?
This is worth flagging honestly. Our records show the 20-quart PMA1020 with a 0.5 hp (0.37 kW) motor and the smaller 10-quart PMA1010 with a 0.8 hp (0.76 kW) motor - so on paper the larger mixer has the smaller motor, while handling more than twice the dough. Each figure is internally consistent within its own product (0.5 hp does equal 0.37 kW), so this is not a simple unit error, but the pairing is odd. We have flagged it for checking - ask our team if the motor rating is central to your decision.
Q: Are the attachments included?
Yes - whisk, hook and paddle are all supplied.
Q: Are the speeds variable?
No, three fixed steps: 130, 259 and 437 rpm. Fixed speeds are mechanically simpler and there is less to fail.
Q: What warranty does the ICE-PMA1020 come with?
Covered for 2 years parts and labour under the manufacturer's Double Gold Star warranty — a branded term, but the substance is a full two years on both parts and labour. Terms vary by product — see our warranty information page for full details.
