The Butcherquip BCA1001 is a large biltong cabinet that cures 100 kg of wet product at a time in a 950 x 730 x 1750 mm chamber. It is a purpose-built drying cabinet rather than an adapted fridge: a powerful extraction fan moves air for uniform drying, an anti-bacterial ultraviolet lamp protects the product, and there is a real safety design decision built in — the heater cannot be switched on unless the fan is running. It comes with 24 galvanised hanging rods and a stainless drip tray.
Why operators choose the ICE-BCA1001
- Cures 100 kg of wet product at a time — the capacity figure that matters - wet weight in, before the moisture loss. Plan your batches on this, not on the chamber volume
- Heater interlocked to the fan — the heater cannot run without the fan in operation. On a drying cabinet that prevents a hot spot forming in still air, which is both a fire consideration and a product-quality one
- Anti-bacterial UV lamp — biltong is cured in air rather than cooked, so surface bacteria is the risk the process has to manage. A UV lamp is a genuine control, not a marketing feature
- Powerful extraction fan for uniform drying — even airflow is the entire game in a drying cabinet - product that dries unevenly is product you cannot sell
- 24 galvanised hanging rods and a stainless drip tray supplied — the working fit-out is in the box. Rods and a tray would otherwise be a separate spend and a separate lead time
- Adjustable thermostat — set the drying temperature to the product and the ambient conditions
- Glass window for product display — the cabinet doubles as a display, which for a butchery selling biltong is a genuine sales point
- Locking door handle — security on a cabinet holding a week's production
- 2,015 mm tall — a full-height cabinet - check your ceiling and doorways before ordering

Venue suitability
The BCA1001 suits butchers, smallgoods producers, delis and specialty food retailers curing biltong or other air-dried products. At 100 kg of wet product a batch it is production equipment rather than a display cabinet with a fan — and the glass door means it can sell what it makes.

Installation & delivery
It needs a 15 A outlet — 3 kW draws about 12.5 A, above a standard 10 A point. Dimensions are recorded width x height x depth: 1,000 mm wide, 2,015 mm tall and 740 mm deep — check ceiling height, door heads and the delivery route before ordering, because at over two metres this will not go through every doorway upright. A drying cabinet extracts moist air, so think about where that air goes in a closed room. Our data records no weight for this model.
Frequently asked questions
Q: What does '100 kg of wet product' mean?
It is the weight of raw, wet meat you can load in one batch, before curing. Biltong loses a substantial proportion of its weight as it dries, so the finished yield is well under 100 kg - plan your batches and your pricing on the wet figure, which is what the cabinet is rated for.
Q: Why is the heater interlocked to the fan?
Because a heater running in still air creates a hot spot. In a cabinet full of hanging meat that is both a fire risk and a product problem - the pieces nearest the element would cook rather than dry. The interlock means the fan must be running before the heater can come on, so there is always airflow across the element.
Q: What is the UV lamp for?
Biltong is preserved by curing and drying rather than cooking, so surface bacteria has to be controlled another way. The anti-bacterial ultraviolet lamp is part of that control. It is a process feature rather than a convenience one.
Q: What comes with it?
24 galvanised hanging rods and one stainless steel drip tray. That is the working fit-out - you can load it on delivery rather than waiting on a separate order.
Q: Will it fit through my door?
Check carefully. It is 2,015 mm tall, 1,000 mm wide and 740 mm deep. Over two metres of height means standard door heads and low ceilings are a real consideration, and it may need to go in on its side. Confirm your route before ordering.
Q: What warranty does the ICE-BCA1001 come with?
Covered for 12 months. Our records state the duration but not whether labour is included, so confirm the exact cover with our team before ordering rather than assuming it. Terms vary by product — see our warranty information page for full details.
