The Thermaster SD-406K is a 406-litre glass sliding-lid display freezer built for supermarkets, IGAs, convenience stores and ice cream retailers that need product visibility without losing freezer efficiency. Two curved glass sliding lids let customers see and select frozen product at a glance, while the sliding (rather than hinged) design lets staff access stock one-handed and cuts cold-air loss compared with lift-up lids. Climate Class 7 rated for reliable performance in hot Australian retail environments up to 35°C.

Key features

  • 406 L gross capacity, two curved glass sliding lids — high product visibility for impulse purchase with low cold-air loss
  • Climate Class 7 (35°C / 75% RH ambient) — holds temperature on hot Australian retail floors and unconditioned shopfronts
  • R290 natural refrigerant — low-GWP and energy-efficient
  • Colorbond steel body with aluminium-alloy frame and 70 mm high-density insulation — durable build with strong cold retention
  • -18°C to -22°C hard-freeze range — suits ice cream, frozen meals, frozen meat and seafood
  • 240 V, 10 A plug-in power — no electrician required

Venue suitability

Built for supermarkets, IGAs, convenience stores, ice cream retailers, butchers with frozen-meat impulse stands, and bottle shops with frozen-mixer displays. The 1216 mm width fits most retail aisle ends and freestanding bays, and Climate Class 7 makes it one of the few freezers in this size class certified for the hottest Australian retail conditions without performance loss.

Installation notes

Plugs into a standard 10 A 240 V outlet — no electrician needed. Allow 50 mm clearance at the rear and sides for compressor ventilation. Manual defrost is recommended every 4–6 weeks; the drain plug is at the base of the unit.

Delivery & warranty

Ships Australia-wide on pallet freight. Warranty: 2 years parts & labour standard, plus 2 years parts only with product registration within 14 days of invoice. Interest-free finance is available through SilverChef. Full terms: warranty information.

Frequently asked questions

What's the difference between a sliding-lid and hinged-lid display freezer?

Sliding lids stay in their plane (no upward swing) so staff can access stock one-handed and the lid doesn't block customer sightlines. They also lose less cold air per opening because the lid only partly opens at any time. Hinged lids fully open the cabinet, which is faster for full-bin restocking but loses more energy on customer access. Sliding (this unit) is the supermarket and ice cream retail standard.

Why does Climate Class 7 matter in Australia?

Class 7 means the freezer is rated to maintain its set temperature in ambient conditions up to 35°C / 75% RH. Lower-rated cabinets struggle on hot Australian retail floors, especially in summer or in stores without strong air conditioning. Class 7 protects ice cream and frozen product from soft-melt at the top of the bin during heatwaves.

What temperature range does it hold?

-18°C to -22°C — the standard hard-freeze range for ice cream, frozen meals, frozen meat and frozen seafood. Verify with a calibrated probe weekly for HACCP compliance.

Does it run on standard Australian power?

Yes — 240 V single-phase, 10 A plug-in, with a total draw of 180 W during normal cycling. The R290 gas and 70 mm insulation keep energy use low for a 406 L freezer, and no electrician is required.

What does the warranty cover?

2 years parts and labour as standard. Register the product within 14 days of invoice for an extra 2 years parts-only cover. See our warranty information page for full terms and exclusions.
